Rachel quits her highly paid sales job and moves into social work. Being able to help people makes it worth the long hours at first, but a high profile case involving a young child throws Rachel into the media’s unforgiving gaze.
Villain is a dark monologue, with a heavy sprinkling of humour throughout. Jumping back and forward in time we travel with Rachel from cocktails to trial by media.
Villain premiered at Soho Theatre then opened at Underbelly as part of the Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2016 to critical acclaim. Villain was published by Bloomsbury Methuen Drama in February 2017 to coincide with its first revival at Kings Head Theatre.
Written and directed by Martin Murphy, Villain starred Maddie Rice (Fleabag, Pickle Jar) who was nominated for an “Offie” Off West End Award for Best Female Performance following its London run.
